An April Fool published on 1st April finally reached the news pages today when it appeared on Web Pro World. The thread claimed that Google was about to launch its own SEO agency. More interesting than this was that the Google owned agency would charge $25,000 per month and guarantee a first page listing. Whether the thread was started as link bait I'm not so sure.
My suspicions were raised when the story was linked to an obscure news website. If Google really was about to launch its own SEO agency the story would have been published on major SEO websites such as Search Engine Land and Search Engine Roundtable. It wasn't.
Via Google search I traced the origin of the story to an SEO agency called Vertical Measures based in Arizona. Strangely enough the story had a publication date of 1st April. And guess what? A link on the page sends you to a website called April Fools.
Meanwhile, the posters on Web Pro World were still getting in a lather over Google SEO charging $25,000 per month.
